Usability Analytics

Usability Analytics involves analysing web server logs from a usability perspective in order to determine how people access information. Using multiple log file analysis tools and your own reports we look at:

  • Who is visiting your site
  • The path that visitors take through the site
  • How much time people spend on each path
  • Where visitors are leaving your site

While many hosting providers offer visitor statistics, Optimal Usability goes deeper by uncovering the actual problems experienced by real visitors, identifying common errors and providing detailed interpretation of your reports.

Benefits

Usability Analytics has a number of advantages:

  • Can compare design alternative based on traffic patterns.
  • Has a high degree of accuracy, because it uses the "universe of users" and reflects actual usage in natural working conditions.
  • Discovers data that complements studies of greater depth using other usability methods. Studying the log files helps to develop hypotheses and questions to ask participants in user tests, for example.
  • Represents the activity of many users, over a potentially long period of time.
  • Can help identify very specific problems.
