The professional

Trent has a strong technical background, with a particular interest in information retrieval and search technologies. Prior to founding Optimal Usability he worked for Unisys developing a number of cutting edge telephony and IVR applications and he also has extensive web programming experience.

In the last five years his role as Director of Optimal Usability has seen him take a step away from building technology to looking at human behaviour when using technology. After excelling in Human Computer Interaction during his degree, Trent is following his passion for usable design. Trent brings to Optimal Usability a thorough understanding of software engineering and web technologies.

Trent has recently been helping MSD with their claims management system, Telecom with the usability of their natural language IVR and Navman with the usability of their in-car navigation devices. He has also conducted accessibility audits for government departments, and was recently involved in a large scale information architecture project involving card sorting with 7,000 users. He regularly speaks and writes about usability and recently ran a training course on Common Usability Issues.

Qualifications: BCMS in Software Engineering (with First Class Honours)

The person

Trent speaks fluent Spanish after 11 months in Northern Argentina on a student exchange. He enjoys tennis (despite not having improved in the last 10 years or so) and enjoys listening to every kind of music from hip hop to trip hop.
