The professional

Thea is a dedicated interaction designer with a real passion for understanding a system or issue fully before proposing solutions. She loves the range of different industries and clients she’s exposed to in her role as a consultant at Optimal Usability, and prides herself on providing clean, invaluable deliverables to them. She really enjoys discovering subtle, effective interaction solutions that make users happy.

Thea comes from a web design background, with most of her study in the areas of digital art and collage, interface design, and multimedia. She gained a BA from Bennington College in Vermont, and has also studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Scuola Lorenzo Di Medici in Florence.

Since joining Optimal in 2006, Thea has worked an a range of design and user research projects - most recently for Vodafone, ASB, Air New Zealand, The Real Estate Insitute of New Zealand, The Ministry of Justice, Gallagher Group, and Zeacom. She has completed projects including persona development, user testing, contextual enquiry, wireframing and conceptual design, interaction and graphic design, and form design.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts

The person

Thea is a voracious reader of comics and graphic novels, but despite many crates of them to the contrary, does not consider herself a collector (not very good at keeping them in "mint condition.") She really enjoys exploring New Zealand, and (as all expats must) struggles internally with both wanting to brag to everyone about how great it is, and simultaneously wanting to keep it completely secret so they all stay away. Thea and her husband Jay are currently enjoying their sleep-ins, until the baby comes along and changes everything.
