The professional

Trent Mankelow is the CEO and co-founder of Optimal Usability. He started out as a technologist, with a degree in computer science, but quickly found that his passion was in the intersection between people and technology. These days he spends a lot of time with New Zealand organisations trying to understand their customer experience challenges, and setting Optimal Usability’s strategic direction.

Trent regularly writes and speaks on customer experience, service design, and usability. He also helped to found the New Zealand chapter of the Usability Professionals’ Association, and served on its international board from 2008 – 2010.

Qualifications: BCMS in Software Engineering (with First Class Honours)

The person

Trent speaks relatively fluent Spanish after 11 months in Northern Argentina on a student exchange when he was 16. He enjoys playing with his daughter, the occasional game of tennis and the odd cigar. He’s addicted to The Moth and kind of can’t be bothered with long walks, unless it involves going tramping.
