The professional
Nikki holds a PhD in the field of Cognitive Ergonomics associated with the University of Nottingham, where she was also awarded her Masters degree in Human Factors. Cognitive Ergonomics deals with the way in which individuals detect, understand and manipulate information and the way in which tools, tasks and working environments can be designed to support and strengthen these processes.
Whilst completing her PhD, Nikki worked as a researcher at Reading University's Centre for Inclusive Environments, exploring the navigational and information-detection problems encountered in large multi-functional transport environments.
Nikki has been working with Optimal Usability since 2004. In this time, she has worked on a wide variety of design, development and evaluative projects, enhancing the usability of websites, software, cellphones and automated phone systems. Most recently, Nikki has worked on usability projects for First Light ERA, Westpac, Telecom, Canterbury University, Greater Wellington and Parliament.
Qualifications: MSc Human Factors in Manufacturing Systems (First class), PhD in Cognitive Ergonomics
The person
Nikki's favourite activity is looking after her one-year old Rebecca Lulu, playing games, building assault courses, taking her swimming or for walks to the Cable Car Museum. In her abundant spare time, Nikki plays the fiddle in a string quartet and an Eastern European-style folk band, The Klezmer Rebs (who are available for festivals, weddings and bar mithvas - ohi vey!) She also enjoys soccer, tramping and pizza-making, almost as much as a quiet night in!
