Description

Learn how to create forms that work for the user and deliver the information you want.

Have you ever had trouble filling in a form? Written your name in the wrong box of an immigration card? Been told off by a website because your phone number doesn't fit their format? Web and paper-based forms regularly cause confusion, frustration and incomplete or inappropriate data entry.

In this workshop you'll learn what it takes to create bulletproof forms to help you capture important information about your users. You'll learn practical tips to ensure that the user's experience is intuitive and satisfying.

Workshop topics include:

  • Designing forms to suit your purpose
  • Overarching usability principles for usable forms
  • Using appropriate form widgets to capture information from users
  • Using visual design to ensure that forms are intuitive and easy to fill out
  • Discovering web-based and paper form do's and don'ts.

Dave O'Brien is a senior consultant at Optimal Usability, New Zealand's leading usability consultancy company. Optimal Usability has completed over 1,600 user tests for clients such as Trademe, Westpac, Department of Conservation and Yahoo!

Dave is an experienced usability practitioner with ten years in San Diego working for Qualcomm and Intuit. More recently Dave has worked for some of New Zealand's largest companies including Telecom and AirNZ.
