The professional

Blake has been involved with usability research and consultancy since studying Human-Computer Interaction as part of a Graduate Diploma at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in 2001. Prior to joining the team at Optimal Usability, Blake spent three years as a researcher and consultant at AUT's User Experience Lab before taking a year out to work part-time from home (the other half of the year was dedicated to looking after and playing with his new-born son).

Blake strongly believes in a customer-centred approach to doing business, an approach that can only truly be realised by conducting thorough customer research to understand peoples' experiences of a product or service. The need for customer / user research becomes even more important in the online world, where organisations often miss out on the benefits of a face-to-face relationship with their customers.

Qualifications: BSc Business Administration (Honours), Graduate Diploma in Business

The person

Blake's number one passion in life is his two boys, closely followed by spending quality time with his family and friends. Blake also has a love of the ocean where he can be found surfing, kite-surfing or swimming. In an attempt to pay back a fraction of the debt of gratitude for all the good times he has had on the water, Blake joined Muriwai Surf Lifesaving Club.
